At Buddy’s, we install almost strictly natural stone in our hardscapes. There are countless reasons that we have taken this approach, but here a few main ones to discuss; Timeless design, beauty amongst the error, delivery of a pull to the outdoors.

Timeless Design

As man made concrete products have risen in popularity over the past couple of decades, it has been more and more common to have hardscapes replaced time and time again as styles and quality flow in and out of trend. The same cannot be said with natural stone. We operate in a fairly historic region, and observe hardscapes constructed of natural stone that still fit the aesthetics of their accompanied home hundreds of years after their installation. We believe that with the proper integration of natural stone in the landscape, the work can be done once and have a lasting affect for generations; rather than getting phased out like a 1970’s lime green or pink bathroom. Not only that, but we are putting our faith in materials that have already stood the test of time for millions of years, rather than something created by man months or days before installation that has a limited life expectancy.

Beauty Amongst the Error

Have you ever driven down a rural New England road, gazing at the stone walls running through the woods? What about a painting of a beautiful landscape? These images are ones that have an intrinsic beauty when viewed as a whole. If you were to hyper analyze one small section, you would be able to knit pick little issues and inconsistencies in the work. I find that to be where a lot of the beauty and character comes from; amongst the error and the humanity in the work. As much as we may want to be, we are not a perfect species, we all have our flaws as well as our strengths. In a world where computer generated work is on the rise, I find it very relatable to admire work that represents the humans who produced it. The irregularity of a timeless field stone wall, the inconsistency of the natural color patterns in a stone, the depth provided from the shadowing of stones adjoining each other; these are all things I admire when looking at a hardscape constructed of natural stone.

A Pull to the Outdoors

There is no arguing that we live in a digital age. While this has provided tremendous positive impact on society, it has also come with its fair share of negatives. We believe that time spent in the outdoors can solve a lot of these. While it may not be within grasp for people to spend tremendous amounts of time in the outdoors during their hectic lives, we feel a huge step in the right direction is bringing some of that to you.
